Southeastern CT Intro

From: jabbiati (jabbiati@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-07-08 18:26:04 UTC
Hi All...

Someone recently (2 weeks ago) turned me on to letterboxing. What a
GREAT hobby to share with the family! We have found 2 letterboxes so
far (out of three attempts). My daughter and I carved our own stamps
and my wife and 4yr old son are using store-boughts. We have LOVED
the excitement, the outdoor experience, and the unique stamps we have
found.

In getting acquainted with the hobby I've run across a few things.
First--does "Box Under Construction' mean that the letterbox is NOT
at the location anymore?

Secondly, if anyone can recommend any 'kid friendly' boxes in SE CT,
that would be great. We have found the CT State Stamp-New London
County box at Bluff Point, Groton CT and the Olive Oyl box at Fort
Griswold, Groton CT.

Thanks!! I look forward to chatting with you all in the future...

I box in SE CT with a 6-year old & 2-year old! So I'm in your
boat! I can tell you that Pine Point is a very easy drive by, as is
the Big Sugar Maple. We enjoyed the Patriot in Norwichtown, Dyed
Garments & Sheep on a Hill in Bozrah, Dragonsfire in Norwichtown is
a very quick & easy one as well, the Avery Point Lighthouse series
is wonderful, there are several at Devil's Hopyard that you should
be able to do, & your kids will LOVE the I love Ice Cream box. That
should get you started! :) I try to keep my kids under 2 miles
round trip- don't be afraid to ask the placers how long the trek is-
most will reply & let you know if it's kid-friendly or not. We have
a great time & my kids enjoy it just as much if not more than I do.

Happy Boxing!

I hate to toot my own horn, at least most of the time, but all of my boxes in Lebanon are kid friendly. I don't know how far you want to walk with your kids, but my longest one is about 2 miles round trip. The clues will tell you how far you have to walk if they are not a drive-up. I hope you can get to them, I love visitors!

Thank you!!! Yes, we seem in the same boat. My daughter is 8 and my
son is 4. We tried Elain and Jerry's at Bluff Point (the box in not
there!!) and they did NOT like the 4 mile round trip hike. 2 miles
seems just about right.

We just did Letters of a Traitor (Ft. Griswold) from the Drew Clan.
It was the EASIEST box yet. My daughter found it almost entirely
herself. I'd recommend the two boxes at Ft. Griswold--they are great
for kids...

Thanks again!

Well I'm glad that the Lettrs of a Traitor at Ft. Griswold was there-
we went searching for it a few weeks ago & couldn't find it- don't
know what our problem was but obviously we must go back... I must
hang my "loser" sign up now as I surely deserve it since I missed
such an obvious box & I know I was in the right spot...
